About Community Tournaments For Hosts

Ever wanted to run your own community event? Think the game would be a lot more interesting if X card was banned or only a certain kind of card could be used? Looking for a new way to advance in Alteil? If so, consider hosting Community Tournaments, now with codified rules and rewards.

Essentially, Tournament Hosts will be on a Tier system, where the more you host and the more positive feedback you get, the higher you rise in the Tier system. The higher your Tier, the more freedom you have in designing tournaments, the more rewards you get for Hosting, and the better prizes you can give away!

Here are the basics of making a tournament and the Tier system. However, before you get deep into this, you'll probably want to read the ADVANCED RULES in the next post.

• To get started, begin a thread on the Community Tournaments forum explaining your tournament and begin collecting sign-ups for a proposed date. Be sure to post the intended date and time at the very beginning of your post. Alteil staff will leave a comment if there is a problem with your Tournament, or if it’s approved. Remember, your explanation and the choices you make designing your tournament will heavily effect the number of participants you get and how successful it will be.

• For Tier 1 and Tier 2 hosts (see below for Host Tiers), the rules must be double elimination (such as high-low bracket) and best of 1 (best of 3 or best of 1 for finals – Host’s choice). During Tier 1 and Tier 2, card restrictions may be imposed upon participants if desired, but the restrictions must be clear, easy to understand, and represented by a ‘ban list’ (or it’s opposite).

• An individual host may not host a tournament more frequently than every 2 weeks.

• The accounts of participants must be level 10 in order to participate in a hosted tournament.

• A tournament must have the required number of participants signed-up no later than 48 hours prior to the tournament start time. In addition, there must be at least 20% (rounded up) of expected participants to sign up as alternates. No more than 30% (rounded up) may put their names down as alternates.

• At the end of the tournament, the Host will send out a ‘Tournament Report’ via PM to Logress, Romdeau and CSquared.

• All tournaments must take place in the training arena using PUBLIC duels.

• A host may select two other non-participants to assist in organizing the tournament and enforcing the rules of the tournament.

• All successfully completed tournaments add 30 to the host’s Host Score. Additional Host Score may be accumulated through a feedback thread where participants may select to offer 1-5 points or a negative point option. The feedback thread will be in the form of a Poll that will go up after the tournament is completed.

TIER 1
1st – 50 Gran, 10 Point Cards
2nd – 10 Point Cards
Runner’s Up (3nd-5th) – 2 Point Cards
Participation Prize – +2 Point Cards
Host -- 50 Gran, 10 Point Cards

TEIR 2 (Earned at a Host Score of 50)
1st – 50 Gran, 15 Point Cards
2nd – 15 Point Cards
Runner’s Up – 2 Point Cards
Participation Prize – +3 Point Cards
Host - 10 Point Cards and either 100 Gran or a playset of any 1 or 2 star card.
New Option Unlocked: Host may declare this a Nouveau Riche tournament. There is no second place, but Runner’s Up is now 2-10th instead of 3-5.

TIER 3 (Earned at a Host Score of 150)
1st – 75 Gran, 20 Point Cards
2nd – 20 Point Cards
Runner’s Up – 4 Point Cards
Participation Prize – +3 Point Cards
Host - 20 Point Cards and either 200 Gran or a playset of any 1 or 2 star card.
New Option Unlocked: Anything Goes. Host may now use alternate rules for File building and tournament structure, subject to approval.
New Option Unlocked: Theme Tournament. Host may now switch out the Participation Prize for a Fixed Prize based on the theme of the tournament, subject to approval.

TIER 4 (Earned at a Host Score of 250)
1st – 100 Gran, 20 Point Cards
2nd – 20 Point Cards
Runner’s Up – 4 Point Cards
Participation Prize – +4 Point Cards
Host - 20 Point Cards and either 200 Gran or a playset of any two 1 or 2 star cards.
Theme Tournament Upgrade: Host may now not only switch out the Participation Prize, but also the 1st prize and 2nd prize – which can include up to 3-stars, subject to approval.

TIER 5 (Earned at a Host Score of 350)
1st – 100 Gran, 20 Point Cards
2nd – 20 Point Cards
Runner’s Up – 5 Point Cards
Participation Prize – +5 Point Cards
Host - 20 Point Cards and either 200 Gran or a playset of any two 1 or 2 star cards, and a 3 star card chosen by the participant who won the tournament.
Theme Tournament Upgrade II: Host may now not only switch out the Participation Prize, but also the 1st prize and 2nd prize – which can include cards above 3-stars, subject to approval.

• In the event a host runs several tier 5 tournaments, additional rules and awards may be added to this program.

Community Host Program Rules
This document’s purpose is to detail the rules for the “Codified Community Host Program” sponsored by Apocoplay for Alteil USA. The program’s purpose is to reward community members for hosting tournaments that will take place in the training arena. To qualify for a reward through this program, the tournament must have at least sixteen participants to qualify. Additional rewards will be granted to tournaments with 32 or 64 participants. At this time, no tournament hosted through this program may have more than 64 participants. In addition, the rewards hosts will be granted shall be determined through a series of feedback collected via the forums.

At this time, no more than 3 tournaments hosted through this program may be held per week. A tournament qualifies for this program once it has successfully acquired the number of participants and alternates required in these rules.
After a tournament is successfully run, participants and tournament winners will be awarded their respective prizes.

• Tournaments may be hosted at any time, but it is required that hosts use server time (US Eastern) when specifying when a tournament will begin.

• For Tier 1 and Tier 2 hosts (see below for Host Tiers), the rules must be double elimination (such as high-low bracket) and best of 1 (best of 3 or best of 1 for finals – Host’s choice). During Tier 1 and Tier 2, card restrictions may be imposed upon participants if desired, but the restrictions must be clear, easy to understand, and represented by a ‘ban list’ (or it’s opposite). For example, instead of just saying ‘nothing that generates SP’ the host would have to produce a list of banned cards that he believes accurately eliminates SP generation. If the restriction is a no-brainer, like ‘Lawtia only’ or ‘shielded (starter) cards only’, an exhaustive list is not required.

• An individual host may not host a tournament more frequently than every 2 weeks.

• At Tier 3 and higher, alternate rule sets may be used as long as they are clear and easy to understand.

• The accounts of participants must be level 10 in order to participate in a hosted tournament. This will be confirmed by staff if necessary.

• A tournament must have the required number of participants signed-up no later than 48 hours prior to the tournament start time. In addition, there must be at least 20% (rounded up) of expected participants to sign up as alternates. For example, a 16 participant tournament would require 4 alternates. Alternates that attend the tournament, but do not participate will also receive an award just for showing up.

• All participants whom actively participate in a hosted tournament shall receive at least 2 point cards for participating in at least 1 complete round (or the minimum participation prize for the tournament, whichever is higher). Alternates who attend but do not participate shall receive 2 point cards in any tournament format or size.

• At the end of the tournament, the Host will send out a ‘Tournament Report’ via PM to Logress, Romdeau and CSquared. This will contain everything in one document, including everyone who gets rewards and what they are (including himself, and his assistants), everyone’s ranking or placement (including alternates, no-shows, disqualified, etc), recommendations for warnings or bans, etc.


At the tournament rules

• All tournaments must take place in the training arena using PUBLIC duels.

• The time length for each match and round is subject to the tournament host’s judgment. Any conflict arising between participants and the host that cannot be resolved should be reported to Logress and he will mediate between the parties.

• If a participant is unable to play due to other obligations, the participant is forfeiting any further advancement in the tournament and will be awarded based on the position he/she was currently at.

• Participants must arrive no later than 5 minutes of a tournament’s start time. For example, if a tournament began at 1:00PM EST and arrives later than 1:05PM EST, the participant has forfeited his right to participate and an alternate shall replace him. The tournament host will prioritize alternate participation based on order of sign up. The first alternate has the highest priority to participate, and the last alternate has the least priority.

• In the event a tournament is unable to proceed due to too many participants not arriving, the host and all documented participants whom arrived will respectively receive 5 and 2 point cards respectively for attending. Alternates are also included under participants who arrived.

• In the event a participant disconnects during a match, the disconnecting participant has forfeited and his opponent is declared the winner.

• Feedback, points accumulation, and tier advancement
Assistant Hosts

• A host may select two other non-participants to assist in organizing the tournament and enforcing the rules of the tournament. Possible duties could include watching matches to insure there are no rule violations, or reviewing submitted Files to see if they qualify.

• Assistant hosts whom successfully aid a host in completing a tournament may be awarded by the tournament host if he/she chooses. The award assigned is a flat bonus regardless of the rules or size being used (see below).
Tier Rewards

• A host may advance through a series of tiers in order to collect different rewards. All hosts begin at Tier 1. To advance through the Tiers, a host must successfully hold a tournament and gain a higher Host Score through a feedback system on the forums.

• All successfully completed tournaments add 30 to the host’s Host Score. Additional Host Score may be accumulated through a feedback thread where participants may select to offer 1-5 points or a negative point option. The feedback thread will be in the form of a Poll that will go up after the tournament is completed. All negative feedback (-1) must be backed up with a brief post offering constructive criticism. If the number of posts explaining -1 vote does not match the votes collected, the difference between the two will be nullified. For example, if there are 3 “-1” votes but only one post explaining why, then only one “-1” vote will count.

• Assistant Hosts will receive 5 point cards and have 5 added to their own Host Score upon confirmation from the main Host (in this way, any host can help others during his off week to build his score).

A quick note. For the first few weeks, I'll probably approve any tournament with 12 primary signups and 4 Alternates, instead of the 16/4 minimums in the above rules.

Otherwise as for how the rules are set out they seem fairly detailed and I think you covered most points. Logress, could you please bold the separate sections header things because it was a bit hard to find the different parts (if you're looking for something specific)?

Anyway I think I mentioned this somewhere before but it's great to see something like this. I'm always a fan of official support for community based events. Props to all who were involved in making this happen!

I've been thinking of running some tourneys with side-contests following the theme of the tourney. I was wondering if perhaps that would fit under Tier 3?
