I doubt that it was necessary for the original creators to accept the casting. I will offer an example for perspective. Ursula K. Le Guin was kept out of the loop when the Syfy Channel made a movie out of her fantasy series Earthsea. She was very upset when she discovered that it had been whitewashed.

actually, that's a good point. Nickelodeon, or whoever owns them would've probably had the final say on what to do with the franchise, rather than the creators of Avatar itself necessarily.
Tactics is knowing what to do when there is something to do. Strategy is knowing what to do when there is nothing to do.
