Recommendations for Visual Novels

Postby Ginnazoh » Mon Jan 10, 2011 6:28 am

Im looking for suggestions for good VNs that are translated into English or Chinese...

I'm looking mostly towards Multi to bail me out since he is/was the residential VN guru of Alteil...

Oh...I should include which VNs I've read (...the ones I remember are the ones I like since I forget about the ones I dislike)

-Eien no Aselia
-Tears to Tiara
-Soul Link
-Clannad
-G-Senjou no Maou
-Kanon
-Fate Stay Night
-Tsukihime
-Daibanchou
-Sengoku Rance
-Utawarerumono
-Princess Waltz
-Saya no Uta
-Ever17
-Higurashi
-Eve: Burst Error
-Kana
-Chaos Head
-Phantom of Inferno

And the following are ones that I have but haven't gotten around to reading due to being underwhelmed by either the art or music or story or characters or just incomplete translations...
-Ef: A tale of Two
-Da Capo (the entire series)
-Umineko
-Cross Channel
-Kikokugai

G-Senjou no Maou

Strongly, strongly recommended from me to anyone who likes VN medium. Recently finished the main arc and I'll just say....it just keeps coming. It's a tearjerker that will keep your interest until the end.

EDIT: Thought I should mention, the music really stands out. Like, really really good.

Read Soul Link, was a nice change of pace from the standard high school environment. Not as memorable as G-Senjou (devil's G-string is what I call it), but a solid read. I have particular Qualms about Yu's "arc" but nothing besides that. Moving on to Saya no Uta, the summary description just caught my attention.

Saya No Uta is really really short. I absolutely loved the story though.

Wow...Saya no Uta is such a mind trip. I had an idea of what I had signed up when I read the description...but holy ****. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that doesn't have a tolerance for gruesome stories. Even if you can tolerate it, it's the kind of story that just kind of leaves you feeling empty after it's over. I don't regret it, it's just totally different from any other VN I've read so far. And yes, it was fairly short. Deleted it right after I finished the ending and haven't looked back.
